Master Deputy D. M. Powell

I graduated from The Citadel in may of 2001 with a bachelor of science, Biology degree.  I also received a south carolina police corps scholarship in july of 2000, and began to work for the charleston county sheriff's office in august of 2001.  i have served as a patrol deputy, as well as a school resource officer.  I have worked at mcclellanville middle school, lincoln high school, and most recently, here at eb ellington elementary school.  in addition to working in the schools, i also serve on the CCSO honor guard, i have trained new deputies as a field training officer, i am one of my agency's general law enforcement instructors,  and i also serve in the agency's marine patrol division as a vessel operator.

in my personal life, i have been married to my wife for 17 years, i have 5 children, and i attend a local church in charleston.  I am also a amateur radio operator, holding an amateur extra class license.  my call sign is kw4xq.  through my membership in the charleston amateur radio society, i volunteer and assist with many different events throughout the year.

The Mission of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office is as follows: To serve our community by helping to provide a safe environment for citizens to live, work, raise families, and enhance their quality of life by providing excellent law enforcement services, and always seeking to promote mutual trust and respect.

As the SRO at EB Ellington, I serve the community of Ravenel to ensure the safety of EB Ellington Elementary school.  My aim is to ensure that your children and our students have a safe and secure school in which to study, learn, and grow as citizens of Charleston County SC.  I am here to answer their questions about Law Enforcement and safety in general.  I am also here to help teach them about safety, life skills, the criminal laws in general, and how to deal with problems as they arise.

I also will do my best to serve as a mentor the students at EB Ellington and provide them with a example with which to go about their daily lives, and to do their best in all areas of their lives.  As a mentor, I hope to teach them about mutual respect for each other, respect for adults and other authority figures, and respect for rules and laws.  I will assist the other teachers and staff at EB Ellington to ensure that their education is rounded out, with not just academics (which is an important area), but with useful life skills as well.

I am also at the school to answer questions that you as parents and faculty may have.  Feel free to contact me via the Email addresses below, or by phone.  Email is the best contact method and I will return any messages as soon as I am able to do so.
